I established Music Matters in January 2001 because I felt that there was a real need for quality music classes for babies and children in the Berkshire/Buckinghamshire area.
Research shows that providing young children with a good music education from an early age gives them a head start over their peers before they begin school, as music helps all areas of development – physical, social, emotional and intellectual – and provides a creative outlet for the child.

Music Matters differs from other music classes for children in a number of significant ways. Firstly, I am a qualified teacher and taught for many years in schools in Australia, England and Portugal before setting up Music Matters. I also have a Bachelor of Education in Music, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching English as an Additional Language and the Certificate of Professional Practice in Early Years Music (Kodály).
Because of my music and linguistic background, I am particularly interested in the direct connection between learning music and developing language and literacy and in 2009, I had a paper published in the British Kodály Academy newsletter entitled, “The Relevance of the Kodály Approach to Children Learning English as an Additional Language.”
